About Us
We are a family of potters and artists. Chris and George Jetter founded Chickadees Pottery when they retired from real work in 2012 and opened an art gallery with their Pottery attached in the back. In 2018 they moved to NC to be closer to their daughter and to finally fully retire. But the need to create and play in mud won out and together with their daughter, Rebecca Regal, they opened Chickadees Pottery Studio at 165 Avery Creek Rd. Arden, NC.
Rebecca Regal purchased the property that Chickadees Pottery is located on in 2019. The property also has two vacation rentals, Chickadees Cottage and (under construction) Chickadees Nest, where guests can be cozy and are welcome to join in on group hand building projects or set up beginners private Wheel lessons. Let art connect you to the deeper part of yourself and those around you.
You can find Rebecca’s work under two separate lines and styles. When creating for “Chickadees Pottery” (R3) her art is classic with a bent towards nature. When creating under her own line “Rebecca Ceramics” (R3) her pottery moves in modern lines, rustic finishes and/or take on a clear connection to nature and often will have a playful twist.
You are welcome to see behind the scenes look at the craft of pottery by stopping by and watching us work! We love visitors!
Our Studio is our creative space. You will find at least one of us working in the studio almost every weekday 9am-3pm.
If you want to stop by at Chickadees Studio or if you want to set up a lesson with Rebecca, you are welcome to contact us to make sure that someone will be there.
We also have an online etsy store though we don’t always keep it stocked.
If you are looking for custom orders or to commission larger orders come to the studio to work out your design and contact us through our website.

About the Studio Potters
Rebecca Ceramics (R3)
I am from a family of potters and am mostly self taught.
My father taught me traditional clay throwing and his favorite techniques but I enjoy trying new things or testing techniques that are frowned upon and pushing the limits to get new surprising though sometimes subtle results.
My Process – I look for pleasing shapes and textures in nature and then I play off of those with clay in the studio.
I manipulate the clay to achieve rough surfaces meant to mimic boulders and bark. Other times I form the clay into smooth flowing forms to feature the flow of water or the curve of the hills.
Many of my pieces incorporate impressions of leaves that I collect while hiking and I enjoy adding sculpted mushrooms inspired by my foraging.
I use the leaves pressed into clay to leave their imprints and add this to my sculptures. I also use drift wood and twisted laurel branches in some of my work. Recently I have been playing with weaving grasses and pine needles to the rims of some of my work though I’m still learning the craft of weaving.
Training – Pottery has always been a part of my life.
I do not have any formal training in pottery but my father was a pottery student in college and always had a studio available.
I learned wood working and continued painting throughout college but didn’t begin my work in pottery until my late 30s. Now, I can’t imagine not having it in my life.
Something special about my work is that most of my glazes are from family glaze recipes. George Jetter and his college friend, Jeff Stafford, developed glazes in the 60’s that we still use and refine to this day. There are very few commercial glazes that I use on a regular basis.
